Iberá Wetlands
In the northeast of Argentina, far from the well-trodden routes of Patagonia or the northwest, lies a vast and largely overlooked ecosystem: the Iberá Wetlands. Covering more than 13,000 square kilometres, this patchwork of lagoons, marshes, and floating islands is one of the most important freshwater reserves in South America — and a haven for wildlife.
Travel here is slow and quiet. There are no grand viewpoints or dramatic landmarks — instead, the magic lies in the detail: the flick of a marsh deer’s ears, a capybara dozing in the shallows, or the wingbeat of a jabiru stork rising out of the reeds. Conservation is central to the story of this place. In recent years, the wetlands have become a quiet success story — a region where wildlife is not just protected, but returning.
For travellers interested in nature, birdlife, and conservation, Iberá offers something rare: space, stillness, and the sense of being let into a secret.

Once a working cattle ranch, Rincón del Socorro has been thoughtfully restored as a conservation-focused estancia on the edge of the Iberá Wetlands. This is one of Argentina’s finest wildlife destinations — a mosaic of marshes, lagoons and savannah teeming with capybara, caiman, marsh deer and hundreds of bird species — and Rincón del Socorro offers access to it all in serious comfort.

Learn MoreBest Time To Visit Iberá Wetlands
The dry season, from May to November, is the best time to visit. Days are sunny and mild, with lower humidity and easier access to trails and lagoons. Wildlife is abundant, and birdwatching is at its best.
The wet season, from December to April, brings high temperatures and frequent rain. While travel is still possible, some areas may be harder to reach, and afternoon storms are common. The wetlands are at their most lush during this time — though humidity is high.
