Morocco is a wonderfully exciting country to explore as a family and loved ones. It’s a short flight from Europe and offers unimaginable diversity, from the souks and squares of the imperial cities to the dunes and mountains in the south. It’s close enough for a hugely rewarding half-term adventure while there’s more than enough to fill a longer trip.
Time slows down when you venture on foot into the wilds of Morocco. And for us there is no better way to do than with a camp carried on the backs of animals. For a few days the trappings of the modern world are left behind – emails, screens, and 24-hour news are forgotten.
Days move to the rhythm of the natural world.
This itinerary has be designed around your time trekking in the desert of the south, accompanied by your expert crew and luxury caidal camp. Fez
Begin in Fez with four days exploring this ancient mediaeval city, with its miles of alleys and lanes, 9th century tannery and university. This is a city where nothing seems to have changed for centuries. During your time here, explore the city with a local guide who can show you the many sights including the medina, the tanneries, traditional pottery factories as well as the Dar Batha Museum and mosques.

Morocco’s deserts
Trek in Morocco’s southern deserts supported by our luxurious private mobile camp, carried on the backs of camels. While you travel by day, the camps continue the journey with a dedicated crew to set up in time for your arrival. Travelling like this will open your eyes to the raw un-touched nature of this corner of Morocco.
Deep in the Sahara desert your experienced Berber guides will take you to hidden valleys, red mud-built kasbahs, and you’ll be in awe of the stunning scenery. Sunsets and sunrises are spectacular against an otherworldly sea of endless sand dunes.
The next morning will be spent driving along the Draa Valley through fascinating landscapes with spectacular colours and ever-changing scenery. You’ll first cross the Jebel Saghro range, an area of pristine natural beauty that was home to the Ait Atta tribe. Once you’ve travelled through the city of Ait Saoun, you rejoin the Draa Valley and drive along this verdant stretch for over 112 miles, from Agadez to Mhamid village. The area is famous for its huge palm oases, hundreds of kasbahs, and fortified red mud villages where the Draa River gives way to the deep desert.
Day three gives you the opportunity to explore the vast sand dunes. Heading towards the Erg Chigaga and Erg Abidlya dunes, you’ll enjoy a spectacular off-road drive crossing the rough desert pistes to reach Morocco’s most dramatic desert scenery. On arrival at Erg Mhazil, you’ll set off on an unforgettable 3-hour walk where you can genuinely experience the majesty of the Sahara desert with its endless sand dunes and breathtaking views.
Late in the afternoon, you’ll climb one of the big dunes to watch the sunset and the sand changing colour as night falls. And in the evening, sit around the fire beside your mobile tented camp in the middle of Erg Mhazil, and admire the star-filled sky to discover constellations.
