Spend time on the water with sailing and paddle sports, dive beneath the surface on scuba to explore coral reefs, and walk forested trails that lead to waterfalls and birdlife found nowhere else.
Mauritius
An Indian Ocean island with soul — where sugarcane fields meet turquoise lagoons, and history, nature and culture are never far from view.

Mauritius
Mauritius is often spoken about in terms of its beaches — and they are spectacular — but to see it only as a tropical beach destination is to miss the island’s real appeal. Beyond its turquoise lagoons and powdery white sands lies a country with a richly layered history, strikingly varied landscapes and a culture that blends African, Indian, Chinese and European influences with surprising harmony.
Venture inland and you’ll find yourself in a different Mauritius altogether. Quiet roads wind through sugarcane fields and forested hills, leading to waterfalls, crater lakes and walking trails in the Black River Gorges. Colonial-era houses, tea plantations and sacred Hindu temples speak to the island’s past, while street food stalls, vibrant markets and coastal fishing villages offer a taste of its present.
It’s an island that can be as lazy or as lively as you want it to be. Luxury hotels and beachside resorts provide all the usual comforts, but it’s the chance to explore — to head out in a boat with a local fisherman, to sample a homemade curry in a backstreet café, or to walk a forested ridge with views out to sea — that gives Mauritius its depth.
This is a destination for travellers who want more than just a beach holiday. With its mix of natural beauty, cultural interest and warm hospitality, Mauritius offers a laid-back but enriching experience that rewards those who dig a little deeper.

Best Time To Visit Mauritius
Mauritius is a year-round destination, but the most pleasant weather tends to fall between May and early December, when humidity is lower and days are sunny and warm.
January to March can bring heavier rains and occasional tropical storms, but this is also when the island is at its greenest — ideal for exploring its lush interior. If you’re planning a beach-focused stay or combining with wildlife-rich areas in southern Africa, the drier winter months (May to October) are often preferred.
