About Riding Safaris on the Laikipia Plateau

Laikipia is unique in that you can ride across the entire plateau on private land. This means that you are unlikely to encounter any other tourists – an incredibly exclusive experience. Throw in excellent wildlife and dramatic landscapes and this makes for an unforgettable riding safari.

Laikipia is a unique wildlife area and contains an enormous diversity of wildlife from the Big Five downward. It is famous as the last reserve of the Jacksons Hartebeest and is home of several rare species such as the Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk and Somali Ostrich amongst others.

WHY WE LOVE RIDINGON LAIKIPIA

Riding on Laikipia you are unlikely to encounter anyone else, which is perhaps the greatest luxury on safari.

The Laikipia Plateau is incredibly game rich yet, being private land is entirely devoid of the rules and regulations of the National Parks and the feeling ion freedon is palpable.

BEST TIME FOR LAIKIPIA RIDING SAFARIS

Riding on Laikipia is possible any time of year except May and November.

The wildlife does not migrate and so is always there and being on the equator and at altitude there is little variation in maximum and minimum temperatures over the year.

High season is June to September – the long dry season – although it is worth noting that the rains are failing in Kenya with increased regularity and so predicting exactly how dry it will be at any given time of year is becoming increasingly problematic.
