Virunga NP camps - Lulimbi Camp
Lulimbi Camp is brand new in July 2016 and a Natural High Safari were their first ever guests.
Set on the Ishasha River, with Uganda's Queen Elizabeth National Park on the far bank, Lulimbi allows access to the central area of the Park where it is possible to see some of the classic safari mammals and birds - elephants, hippos, buffalo, warthog, topi, kob, vultures, eagles and storks. Crocodiles bask on the sand banks while waders work the shores and it all feels a million miles from the Mountain Gorilla and Chimpanzee habitat you'll have spent the morning in - in fact it is less than 100 and is covered by one of the Park's light aircraft which gives an interesting and unique overview of how it all fits together and the challenges that are still being faced.
It is possible to both walk and drive in this sector - and the walk accross the savannah to the shores of Lake Edward is particularly rewarding. The eight tents are stretched out along the banks of the river and have running hot (solar heated) and cold water and flush loos. Each has a private verandah where it is possible to watch the river flow by - invairably with an unfeasibly large number of Pied Kingfishers darting and hovering - and the ubiquitous hippos endlessly altercating.
