Paro camps - Amankora Paro
Amankora Paro was the first of Aman’s luxury resorts in Bhutan and this one is the largest, surrounded by pine forests a half an hour drive from Paro, close to the ruined Drukgyel Dzong. The 24 stylish suites are situated in six rammed-earth buildings, two on the ground floor and two on the upper floor.
The wood-panelled minimalist interiors feature an enormously comfortable king-size bed, traditional bukhari (wood-burning stove) and a large terrazzo-clad bath. If you stay at one of the other Aman resorts in Bhutan, the decor will become quite familiar. Peace and tranquillity is the idea here so there is no television or wi-fi to distract you, just divinely scented toiletries in the bathroom, spa treatments and classes in a glass-walled yoga suite to help you unwind.
In the main building the dining room opens out on to a flagstone terrace and wooden deck overlooking a mountain stream. A comfortable lounging area invites you relax and enjoy views of the dzong and the distant snow-clad Jhomalhari. Meals of Western and Indian cuisines are served on a large communal table. There’s also a small boutique selling local fabrics and library with internet access.
