Central India's Parks camps - Flame of the Forest
Flame of the Forest
This stylish lodge close to the Kisli entrance to Kanha National Park, is owned and run by husband and wife team Karan and his Swiss wife Isabelle who followed their dream to live as close to nature as possible. They chose Kanha as Karan was already well versed with its bio-diversity and together at Flame of the Forest they offer a range of activities that help guests share their dream and enjoy Kanha's natural environment and all its wildlife.
After a morning jeep safari you can lap up the view of the River Banjaar from your cottage veranda, go for a walk with your naturalist to discover the little things that might go unnoticed on a drive, or take a yoga session with Isabelle. Staff members, drawn from the local community, are happy to guide you on a visit to the village, on a cycle ride down quiet lanes and animal tracks or let you find out what they are up to in the kitchen. There are lots of lovely places to dine, either with the owners and other guests, in the dining room or garden and around the camp fire at night, or you might prefer dinner for two in a wonderfully romantic spot next to the river.
There are just four cottages, all luxurious and slightly quirky, built in the local traditional style using mud and thatch. Each has a spacious veranda overlooking the river, ideal for bird watching and observing monkey and deer which come there to drink. Karan and Isa have chosen to keep the lodge small to offer guests as much flexibility as possible. The wildlife experiences will be tailored to suit you but, if at any time you want to dip out of safaris, this is the perfect place to simply relax.
