North India and Rajasthan camps - Taj Lake Palace
Taj Lake Palace
Probably the most easily recognised hotel in the whole of India, Udaipur’s white marble Lake Palace continues to be a very special place to stay. Situated on an island in the middle of Lake Pichola, you are chaperoned to your waiting boat by a bearer with sun umbrella and arrive at the palace under a shower of rose petals.
Built as a prince’s pleasure palace more than 250 years ago, the white marble palace is a captivating mix of classical luxury, tranquillity and romance. Despite being on a small island, large terraces, a lily pond garden, swimming pool and fragrantly scented spa mean there are plenty of options to find a quiet spot. There’s more of an almost homely atmosphere and intimate feeling than the 83 rooms and suites would suggest. Each of the beautifully appointed rooms has a modern elegance but rich silks, glass mosaics and antiques means they never leaves their heritage behind. All rooms have a lake view and a butler is on hand to attend to all your needs.
There are two restaurants but for a an indulgent splurge we can arrange private dining on the royal barge or a floating pontoon on the lake. Boats are available to visit the mainland whenever you like, but the best views of the city palace is from the island itself.
