Serengeti National Park

The best known safari destination in the world

ABOUT THE SERENGETI

There’s a good reason the Serengeti’s the best known safari destination in the world. Even if you exclude the Wildebeest Migration with its 1.5 million odd animals, the proliferation of animal life in this park defies belief, so if you’re looking for an epic wildlife safari there are few better places to start.

In the company of a good guide a safari in the Serengeti can feel like stepping into a wildlife documentary. The wildebeest migration is the headline act in the Serengeti and it’s well worth making this a focal point of your safari, however many people miss the other great aspect of the park, which is its extraordinary size and variety.

As the majority of visitors are drawn to wherever the migration happens to be, with a bit of cunning and some good local knowledge, it is possible to have large areas of this exceptional park almost to yourself.

What’s more you’ll still encounter epic wildlife with a very good chance of seeing most of the major mammal species from lion (virtually guaranteed) to leopard, elephant, buffalo and all of the major plains game, not to mention well in excess of 400 species of bird.

For a small number of companies of which we’re one, walking safaris are possible in remote wilderness zones of the Serengeti – here you can walk and sleep in light mobile camps under the stars, without seeing another soul for days. Check out our walking safari in the Serengeti - a multi-day walking safari through this game-rich national park.

We specialize in creating safaris that are journeys in themselves, creating a balanced itinerary to suit you and your interests.

BEST TIME TO VISIT THE SERENGETI

The Serengeti offers excellent game viewing year-round and seasons relate mainly to key events in the annual Wildebeest Migration. The best game viewing is between July and October in the northern Serengeti - the river crossings - or between December and March in Southern Serengeti as the wildebeest gather for the calving.

Between December and March – the migration is in the South of the Serengeti on the short grass plains around Ndutu. This is an excellent time to see massive concentrations of wildebeest as they gather to calve as well as large numbers of young of all species, numerous lion, leopard and cheetah and other predators, and large numbers of migratory bird species.

December to March is also an excellent time to get away from the crowds in Northern Serengeti. Most tourists follow the migration to the south, but the north remains one of the best places in Tanzania to see the Big 5.

Between April and June the wildebeest start to move off the short grass plains towards the western corridor crossing the Grumeti River in the process.

In late June and July, the herds begin to arrive in the northern Serengeti. River crossings take place between now and October.

Enjoyed EVERY second of an action- packed two weeks in Kenya. Asante Sana👏

"This was my fourth safari booked with Natural High and, as previously, it surpassed my expectations. Vanessa’s Itinerary was spot on - the three camps were very different but all were spectacular with food to die for, wonderful staff, friendly, knowledgeable and great driver/guides. I could go on and on - it was perfect, and the icing on the whole trip was tracking, and finding a pack of Wild Dogs - the reason for going😃
Already saving for a 5th trip and will DEFINITELY book with Natural High - they are the Best!"

Morroco was a pleasant surprise

"This was certainly not our first trip with natural high.
As any other trip, organization was great, ie pick up, vehicles, local guides, food, all well done.
I now have a different opinion of the country and people."
