Kenya can get a bad rap for being overrun with tourists but if you know where to go it is remarkably easy to avoid the masses. In terms of variety, the mammals, birds and scenery is very hard to beat.
Easy access from Europe into Nairobi means you can maximise your time on the ground. This itinerary is an epic safari, especially for families and for those that want to leave the crowds behind, enjoy the freedom that Kenya offers and get well off the beaten track.
Laikipia offers a freedom to explore on foot, horseback or camel that is both refreshing and increasingly hard to find, while the Mara probably contains a higher concentration of large predators that anywhere else on the continent – and so the combination of the two areas should satisfy both the desire to get off the beaten track as well as getting a proper big-game fix.

Laikipia Plateau
After a stopover night in Nairobi this itinerary kicks off deep in the game-rich yet little visited, Laikipia Plateau. An area covering almost two million acres running from Mount Kenya in the east to the Rift Valley in the west. Days on safari in Laikipia is an extremely different safari experience to the rest of eastern or southern Africa. Independent ranches open the gates to a plethora of opportunity from walking to horse riding or camel safaris and more. This a proper wildlife playground.

The Masai Mara is one of the best known wildlife areas in Africa and an area of iconic East Africa scenery – wide open plains with rivers framed under massive skies. For the final three nights in the bush, you’ll be in the Mara North Conservancy that borders the Mara Reserve. Game viewing often starts from camp with prime wildlife habitat surrounding the area.
The luxury tents are set next to a seasonal stream that attracts fantastic resident birdlife and plains game.
