Once a hallowed safari destination, Zimbabwe has emerged from a few troubled years and remains a safari destination to be reckoned with. Although travel around the country is not as easy as it once was, there are some real gems here that are definitely worth considering.
The main areas of interest to a visitor are the Victoria Falls (yes, it is in Zim!), Hwange, Matobo, and Mana Pools on the Zambezi. These areas still offer a great variety of animal and birdlife, interesting culture and unique scenery. Other areas such as Gonarezhou, Kariba and the Eastern Highlands are opening up once more and already offer the discerning Africa enthusiasts a range of different experiences.
Zimbabwe's professional guides are still among the best in Africa and with them you can get out and about in game-drive vehicles, on foot, horseback or just above the water in a canoe. Furthermore, areas such as Gonarezhou and Mana are right off the beaten track...so ideal for a little exploration of your own.
