Zambia - Zambia Safaris
Zambia Safaris are all about excellent guiding and an all-round wildlife experience. It is also one of the best places you can go for walking safaris. It is a warm, colourful, welcoming and very special country. Zambia has a reputation as one of the best destinations for those in search of authenticity in Africa.
The scenery is magnificent, with the huge and fast flowing Zambezi, culminating in the Victoria Falls and spectacular rapids below. Many of the parks are centred around rivers or wetland areas where plentiful wildlife congregates. The game viewing areas are varied and beautiful. Anyone who loves trees with be blown away by some of the winter thorn, leadwood and ebony groves.
Here it's possible to explore the bush at literally grass roots level, in the company of highly knowledgeable safari guides. Zambia has a well deserved reputation for pioneering walking safaris and is ideal for those who want to get out of a vehicle and really experience the thrill of the bush. There are great opportunities to explore some truly remote areas.
While Zambia has a number of Africa's best luxury safari camps and lodges, it is perhaps best known for its small, often owner-operated safari camps. The likes of Robin and Jo Pope and John and Carole Coppinger have purposefully maintained a simple style of safari camp, while putting the greatest investment into offering guests a real insight into the lives of Zambia's wildlife.
Camps like Tena Tena and Tafika Camp are examples of this approach. Traditional tents or simple thatched structures often belie the exceptional standards within, and a focus that's steadfastly on nature and wildlife and getting out into it.
The people also make Zambia very special. The Zambians are warm, welcoming, friendly and brightly enthusiastic about their country. Many of the operators running safaris have been doing so for the last 30 years and in relative terms to the rest of African, Zambia has remained reasonably untouched by the “Africa behind glass” culture of some of the other countries. It is refreshingly unsophisticated and unspoilt with some real bush characters and first class guides.
